I am working on the re-upholstery of the three seats in my wagon and have the kit from LeBaron Bonney and new springs. I need some help with the frames and the front seat tracks. The Ford Book states that the track/mechanism and the lever are all cadmium plated, though my lever appears to have been nickel plated. So, I'm going with cad on the track/mech and nickel on the lever. What I can't find anything about is the frame itself. Was it also cad plated or was it painted (black?) steel? The feet on the frames would obviously not hold up well if they were painted, so I'm assuming that a bare or plated metal surface might have been the finish. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I cannot seem to immediately locate the pictures I took as I worked on my car except for one under the front seat. I believe that the seat cushion frames are painted black. The only parts that were plated would be the adjusting mechanism for the front seat. Where the feet for the rear seats are inserted in holes in the floor the paint would have been scr*ped of and the bare metal would eventually get a layer of rust.

Kubes You may be confusing what was done in 40 with what was done in 42-48. The adjusting mechanism in 42 is plated including the rails it slides on. All else is painted black. For the rear two seats there are cross frames between the back and front edges of the spring section. These are two piece and have bottom flanges that bend out to form the feet that rest on the floor on top of a rubber floor mat. Between the two pieces at the rear are stamped metal hooks that are inserted in slots in the floor to hold the seat down. There is no evidence of plating on the feet or hooks. Don't know what to say about the canvas patches. There were none on my car and since the seats sit on the rubber floor they don't seem to be necessary.
