I'm restoring my 1940 Deluxe and have gone from a 3.78:1 rear end to a 3.25:1. The 3.78 uses a 19tooth Driven Gear. The 3.25 uses a 17tooth. The Drive Gear stays the same. I've just discovered that in order to change the Driven Gears, one has to change the Gear WITH the little Housing. See attached photo of my 19 Tooth Gear. What I need is the same but with "17". Can anybody help me out with one ? Thanks Greg

The closest available match for your 3:25 rear end is the 18 tooth gear AA-17271-E from C&G (800/266-0470) about $15. It will fit your old housing (turtle). While it isn't a perfect match, the difference is slight . Speedometers are not precision instruments, so bit of difference is usually not large enough to be of concern.

Start with the place you bought the gears. If no success try Bratton's Ford Parts, (301) 829-9880. If still no luck post your question on fordbarn.com and HAMB, https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forums/the-hokey-ass-message-board.5/ Good luck and put your general location in your profile and enable your email, you never know when it will pay off. Thanks Charlie, I purchased the 3.25 from All Ford Parts. They also sold me the 17 tooth gear but without the "turtle" as you call it. Good name. The 19tooth gear has a 1.100" diameter where as the 17 is only .970", so I didn't even bother to take the 19 to pieces. That's when I found out that you have to change the Turtle and the gear. The guys at All Ford are looking for a 17 Gear and Turtle. I just looked up the AA-17271-E at C&G and yes, they sell the gear only. I'll call Brattons tomorrow. I see that the published ratios are 4.11, 3.78 and 3.54 but nothing about the 3.25. Was the latter a Ford option back in the day or is it a modern day aftermarket? When I figure out how to enable my email and put my location in my profile I will do so. Meantime, gbiddle@biddle.pe and I'm a displaced Aussie who's been living Peru for the past 40 years. Greg
