There is nothing wrong with using straight 30W, but many of us use the 20W-50 to improve oil pressure at low speed and hot idle, particularly if the engine has quite a bit of wear. Low oil pressure when hot has been a Ford trait for almost as long as the flathead V8 has been around. Wide bearing clearances, compared to modern day engines, account for much of it.

Why 20/50? My engine is completely rebuilt and I'll be using straight 30W.

What ever you do , DO NOT TRUST THE FORD GUAGE that is in the car, use a mechanial gauge attached to the oil press switch outlet and take another reading, this way you will be sure of the pressure reading, they do not need much pressure but they need some, they did go to a higher pesssure pump later on for a reason, you could install one of them, JOBLOT in NEW YORK has the complete set up, I installed on of them in my 37, a cheap price to pay to help make the engine last longer, ALSO 20-50 oil would be a good way to go, ESP for summer driving, KEEP ON TRUCKIN 37 RAGTOPMAN

35gal, These old engines don't require much pressure to be healthy. As long as your gauge reads some pressure while driving, you're ok. When at a stop sign, a pressure drop to zero is not usually cause for alarm. Remember, brand X had a splash oil system back then! Just make sure you have clean oil to circulate, and your engine will purr.
