All splices in a 6 volt system should be soldered with electrical (rosin core) solder. Crimped connections develop corrosion over time and develop resistance.

Thank you. Red is what I thought, but was not sure. The wire is part of the dash wiring loin. It was spliced at the engine firewall (in the engine just behind it. So l am resplicing it just wanted to be proper.

If you are inquiring about your 1936 Ford, the wire going to the resister from the ignition switch is red with a black tracer and the wire going from the resister to the coil is red. The gauge of the wires appears to be about 16ga and it is plain copper wire, not resistance wire. I do not have the exact gauge of the wire as none of the service material gives it, but 16 gauge is more than adequate for the current flow to the coil.

The Ford V8 Service Bulletins for 1941-1948 list wire gauges for some years. On page 270 is a schematic for a 45-47 Mercury. It lists the wire size from the ignition switch to the coil as 16 gauge. Remember that Ford used iron wiring, which has higher resistance than copper wiring, so a 16 gauge copper wire should be more than adequate. The ignition coil from resistor color is listed as red

There are numerous wiring diagrams in the 41-48 Ford book and the 39-48 service manual. None of them give a wire gauge. All say that the color is black.

What is the wire guage for coil resistance wire. What color is it? Thank-you.
