How do I remove and replace the ignition switch on my 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe?

Remove the wires from the three terminals. It may be wise to label them for proper reinstallation. Remove the two screws holding the Bakelite terminal plate to the column drop. Once the screws have been removed, the terminal plate, brush plate and metal housing will be free to fall in to your hand. This assembly can only be installed one way so have no fears of getting it wrong

Tom, when you are reinstalling the terminal plate, make sure that the pin on the switch enters the hole for the triangular shaped brush inside the terminal plate. http://www.earlyfordstore.com/product_info.php/cPath/27_75/products_id/10019?osCsid=ace15d57c3f56ecdbc26254f64194e07

What I like to do after I unhook the wires and before removing the two screws, is to place a thin strip of electrical tape around the body and plate so that the unit all stays together until I can get it to my workbench where I can then take it apart on my terms rather than have all of the pieces fall out onto the floorboard.
