I've got what I believe is to be a 1940-50s chassis and drivetrain minus motor and I was wondering how I might be able to figure out what year it is and what car or truck it came from. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is a pic of the front of the chassis in case that would help. Thanks Darin

The only numbers we have been able to find were on the passenger side frame rail toward the rear of chassis and it is U643. Is there any other location it might be?

The first letter of the vin is the engine code. In 1955 the letter "U" was for the 272" V8. The VIN is also supposed to be on the top front of the passenger side frame rail, about where the bumper brackets bolt on. My best guess is that it is a '55 car frame. It looks like the front frame area on my '55.

The numbers on the back were the only ones I could find, didn't have any luck finding any on the frame rail up front

Looks like '55-'56 car to me - if VIN has a '6' in the second digit it's a '56. Scr*pe/sand around top of passenger side frame rail forward of the suspension mount for the VIN/serial number. '57 had different suspension arms, '53-earlier used kingpins and no ball joints, but you '52-'53 fans knew that already. Alan H.
