New door weatherstripping on 49 coupe won't allow doors to shut flush- does anyone have any advice on this matter?

Call the vendor and ask him. Trimming the weather strip to make the doors fit, leaves the weatherstripping in a mess, because it removes the solid cover layer and leaves the foam exposed

This is a common problem, my four door did the same with new seals. Adjust the locks so the doors close easy and adjust them as the seals compress, it may take a few weeks but they will get better.

Thanks for the advice, Tom! I have seen the trimming method mentioned before, but didnt think about the potential mess it would leave.

O.K. Greg, so it seems like patience and persistence are going to be key here. Thanks for the tip and I will definitely try that first!

Your problem is often encountered after replacing the weatherstripping on the cowl vent flapper door. May help or not but I lubricate (and preserve) the weatherstripping and rubber parts on my car with glycerin, available in some drug stores or elsewhere. This might help the weatherstripping/gasket slide into place.
