Just installed my U Joint to transmission. When I tighten down on the bolt that holds the two together, the transmission locks up. If I back it off a round or two, it turns again. What am I missing here? The transmission is NOT in the car yet. Thanks

Do you have the correct retainer (spacer) in place? it is a special part, with an ID of 13/32, OD of 1 5/32, and is 11/64" thick. It goes on first, followed by the flat washer and bolt.

I do have the thick washer which rests against the U joint with a bolt

There are two washers needed. The thick one goes between the u-joint and the transmission shaft, the thin one goes under the bolt that hold the joint to the shaft. Without the spacer, the u-joint will lock up against the transmission case.

That was the problem. I was missing the washer between the joint and shaft. Works great now. Thanks much
