The hood on my 36 rubs against the cowl on my driver side when closed.I notice that on the right side, the hood meets close to the side of the grill as it should but on the left side there is about a 3/8 to 1/4 inch or more cap.All the holes for the hood ornament, radiator bracket, and where the hood attaches to the cowl all line up and are not slotted for adjustment. If I could slide the left side lower panel forward a little that would help a lot,but I don't know how.I would like to get this fixed before I paint the car.Any help at all would be appreciated.Thank You! Frank

The hood sides are held together by the center strip. Each side can be moved forward or backward independently and so you can move the driver's side ahead, while holding the passenger side steady. Hope that helps.

Thank you G Tosel for the reply but it doesn't move quite enough maybe an 1/8 at most.I guess I could file a little off the radiator bracket on that side so it can slide more. Thanks again, Frank

Have you checked the measurement from the cowl to the radiator sh*ll at the top of the radiator and where the sh*ll meets the fenders, on both sides, to see if they are the same? You may have to loosen all of the fender and radiator sh*ll bolts to get every thing lined up.

Thanks Tom,The distance is about a 1/4 inch different on the one side on the top and bottom.Do I have to loosen all the fender bolts back to the running boards?Do you think I'll have to loosen the radiator mounting too since the sh*ll is attached to the radiator on each side on the top?I appreciate your time and help. Thank You! Frank

Mike Kubarth gave this advice on aligning the 1940 Ford hood. https://www.earlyfordv8.org/forum/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=14&Topic=4419&keywords=hood%20alignment The "(not) fun part " applies to all cars when you are trying to align any of the parts.
