Use some liquid soap for a lubricant and then you can easily rise off the residue. Use something like Dawn.

Leave the tank cover in place and the filler neck is part of the gas tank so it can not be removed. Just use some rubber lubricant and slide the new over the filler neck and down to the tank cover.

can someone tell me the procedure for replacing the gas tank neck grommet on my 34 5w coupe? do i have to take the tank cover panel off or just remove the filler neck? thanks to all bob
