At our shop we use straight stem valves, new hardened seats all around, adjustable lifters, and stem seals on the intakes. Using the mushroom valves and solid lifters almost always results in at least one or more noisy valves, even with the most careful job.

Ok exhaust valves have a flat tops, the top of intakes are indented in the middle and have the script in the indent. As said todays service parts use flat top or exhaust for all valves. They are the same. It is perfectly normal to replace the valve train with a 1949 - 53 valve train we do this all the time. sam
