FORUM RULES: Users agree to these Rules when using Forum.

The user agrees to the following terms:

  1. All information that you provide to us for your membership is correct.
  2. You will not use your membership to spam, harrass, or exploit other members in any way.
  3. Vulgar, Abusive, Racist and Sexist Language will not be tolerated.
  4. Commercial-type sales postings will not be allowed.
  5. No mass posting or flooding of the boards is allowed.
  6. No Advertising of parts or cars; no Ebay or business/commercial ads (please use the "Classified" for ads Wanted or For Sale).
  7. VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
  8. EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

    http://donclink.com/deuce_75_1/images/dscn2950.jpg

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
  9. HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

My 47 is the early facelift version - I've also heard called the bullnose version. In the 1941-48 Ford Book for restoring, there a series of running changes with their dates of change in appendix D (pages D-3 and D-4. My car has all of the changes listed up to "friction vent window latch" (3/24/47) Here's the question... It has the holes in the front bumper guards for the bracket which was listed as a 4/01/47 deletion. The holes for mounting the bracket are there, but the bracket is long gone. I have seen original advertisements (drawings) that show my car's configuration, no hood ornament, with the new for 47 bumper guards and the bracket that goes between the guards underneath the license plate. I have never seen one in person or for sale. I believe my car is supposed to have one since the mounting holes are there. I tried using a 1946 bracket, but the length is wrong because the bumper guards on the 46 are narrower and therefore the bracket is too long. Does anyone have any info on this bracket that I could use to make or find one? Was there a part number? It appears that they were only used for the period roughly from 3/24/47 thru 4/1/47. I attached a picture of one of the holes.

I suspect you may have a station wagon bumper, or a '41 type, as the spacing of the bumper guards is wider than other models. If you have the Club's 41-48 book, you will find information on bumpers and part numbers. I have a late year '47, and there was a front guard when I got it, It fastened behind he guards. I suspect it was some kind of after market guard, perhaps dealer installed. Ford was famous for "running changes" without notice, and after WWII the demand for new cars was very high, and the factory used anything on hand to keep the line rolling. The 41-48 book is a treasure chest of these facts.

Thanks. The references I made were from the book you mentioned. I do have the correct bumper. The bracket or bar I'm asking about spans across the bottom between the bumper guards, like a 46. Anytime you see an ad from early 47 with no hood ornament, the bar is shown. My car has no hood ornament and holes in the bumper guards, I'm just missing the part that spans across the bottom between the two bumper guards.

I consulted the book "Famous Ford V8s" by the late Lorin Sorensen. It shows the front bumper bar as early as 1942. It was still present on the early '46 models, but disappeared early in '47, and not shown on any cars thereafter Photos of the assembly line shows no bars after April 1947, and a full page shot of the "new" Sportsman convertible is minus the bumper bars.

Does the Sportsman have a hood ornament? In the ad I attached on my previous post, it shows the newer bumper guards with the bar (and no hood ornament). Since the bar was dropped shortly after the bumper guards were updated, but not at the same time, and since my front bumper guards have the holes, I believe it is reasonable to believe that there was a small number of early facelift fords made as the ad depicts. Maybe I'll never know for sure, but I'll tell you that the holes look "factory", not drilled. Why would my car have the holes where the bar would have been? Maybe the bumper guards were manufactured with the holes, but then the bars were never introduced into production because plans changed. I believe these bumper guards are interesting evidence to consider for the 47 facelift enthusiast.

Does your car have the original window glass in it? Or at least one of the side windows? If so, what month do the 'bugs' on your glass indicate your car was built? Just another bit of data that may help you sleuth this one out. Fwiw
