I have been the caretaker/keeper of my '36 DeLuxe coupe since 1952, have driven it over 95K in all kinds of weather, brutal Idaho winters, blazing Nevada/So Cal heat. I have done most of the mechanical work on the car which has involved adding hydraulic brakes, improved steering, suspension, later model Columbia, while at the same time keeping the car all EFV8 and stock looking.

Hi- We are doing a frame off restoration on our 36, we had to purchase a new frame the original was bad we bought a mustang ll rack and pinion front end and are att odds about the proper width of rear end to use our car measures 56" WMS TO WMS we found a chart showing the stock rear end should measure 59.5" we were hoping to use a 96 explorer it measures 59.5" if in fact it should be 56" we could use off set wheels Can you give me some insight on your trial and errors

This is a "restoration" forum; most members here don't modify vintage Fords the way you are proposing. You might want to try the H.A.M.B. or a Street Rod Forum for this type of work. . . . 78-730B

Also be advised that the Mustang II front suspension isn't very popular on HAMB (too new). Gloss over it. Be sure to write an introduction when you get there. Charlie Stephens

You're right Charlie--HAMB is a traditional Hot Rod forum. Yeah, Mustang II Pinto suspension is probably not popular there either.

I/we would not consider your project a "restoration", the literal interpretation of a restoration is "as new".. Your project is more along the lines of a "Rest-o-Mod".. In other words a vehicle that is all modern with some similarities to an old car. I am probably one of the few contributors to this forum and/or the Ford Barn that has original and/or custom car-hot rod leanings.. My '36 is modified, however, nothing newer that '48 Ford parts were used. I have two other pre 1950 cars that are extensively modified with performance suspensions, and 1978 or newer power trains. I hope you have a very fat wallet because the project you have started will in the end cost you over $100.k... Been there done that. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe
