Have a 49 convertible original V8, transmission, very little access room in frame to work installing new seal. Without access to install tool 7657, is only way to get seal in properly is to remove transmission to work on it? Any options or other tool to use to insert new seal?

The extra "X' frame in convertibles makes replacing the extension seal difficult unless you can work the puller and the driver into place. Sometimes the area can be expanded by unhooking the rear engine mount and jacking the transmission up a bit. It is a good idea to replace the front driveshaft yoke too, and most have a wear ring that can cause leakage with a new seal. If you don't have the proper tools, replacement by a shop is called for.

Thank you for the good information. Learning the convertible frame makes it a tougher job, I've removed the transmission to replace the seals. More work but better for doing the seal replacement.
