VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)

On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

Mercury engines for 1952 and 1953 have heads with EAC on them.

Gentlemen,
Your expert knowledge and advice is why I love to offer up my questions to you on this Early Ford V8 club website. This '50 Ford will only be a safe and fun driver car for me and family, not a concours or show car.

After reading your responses here it sounds like I have a 49 - 51 Mercury engine that should be light green in color. However, I'll probably just keep the engine red and call it good.
As for the overdrive issue I will pursue the link you sent me TomO.

One last question; where would you go to install seat belts? Any thoughts?

'48-52 Ford truck engines were painted red.

Just a little clarification. The 8CM heads were used on 49-51 Mercury engines, which were painted light green. The heads on 52-53 Mercury engines were cast with the letters EAB on them. 1950 Ford engines were painted bronze.

Thanks TomO for the color clarification. The pictures show 8CM heads. I'm not a Mercury expert, but have known the 8CM to be painted light green.

Here is a link to a procedure to trouble shoot the overdrive in your car. If it doesn't work out for you, come back here for additional help.

1952 and 1953 Mercury engines were red.

I cannot answer your question as how to detail the engine, because you did not specify what you want to do with the car.

If you want to put it on the Early Ford V-8 Club Concourse, you should replace the heads with Ford Heads and pain the engine the correct color for a 50 Ford.

If you plan to show it in Touring Class, you can paint the engine any color that you like.

I don't know of any supplier of the correct red for the 52 and 53 Mercury.

Red was not the color of the Mercury engine. You can Google "1950 Mercury engine" images and get representative pictures of the green color they were originally painted.

Your description of shifting the overdrive with the handle makes me think you are only switching from free-wheeling to locking the overdrive out. I encourage you to seek out how it should work and verify the condition of your transmission. A working overdrive makes driving your car much more pleasant on the open road.

Thanks John,i assume its running good. I'm not too up on post 49 engine colors ford an merc. Some Mercs were a lite green,some ford colors were a bronze color and a red , don't know which goes with what yr. ken ct.

Hello all,
I recently purchased a 1950 Ford Fordor custom. It has a flathead V8, 3 speed manual with overdrive. Currently, the overdrive system works but only by engaging or disengaging the OD on the dash. The OD will not engage/disengage automatically while driving.

The previous owner stated he put a Mercury engine in the Ford car. It is a flathead V8 with 8CM stamped on the heads. It runs very well. The carburetor needs a rebuild but I have taken care of that with the help of Ken ct. Thank you Ken!

My question to you is this: The color of the Mercury engine is currently red; tangerine red, or Ford red, or just plain rattle can red I don't know. So, did Mercury ever paint their engines red? I want to detail the engine and engine bay. Should I seek out 'Mercury engine red' or is there no such thing? Please advise.
