It probably was dealer installed, and it did have the door switches.

Richard, your truck may have come with a dome light as a dealer installed accessory(factory approved). Some of the dome lights were operated with a toggle switch rather than door switches. The toggle switch type may have been the ones installed later by the dealer.

The Five Star Extra cab did come with a dome light as part of the package. That one I didn't think about, because my regular cab had one when I got it. Perhaps, it was added. And the lock on the glove compartment door, and the door locks on both entry doors were also part of the Extra cab. What about the glove compartment light? I was listing the differences from memory, and my memory has never been that great. Things have sure changed in the last 60 years regarding what we consider accessories. Everything listed above for the Extra cab is standard equipment today and has been for years. Richard

It also included courtesy light switches on both doors plus dispatcher door lock and outside door locks on both doors. All a big step up. Don

Richard, I think the dome light was also part of the 5 star package.

Fifty-one was the year of the "big" styling change for the '48-'52 trucks. The front end was redesigned with a new grille, hood, bright trim, bumpers and other changes. The back window was enlarged for 1951. Also a second windshield wiper was added and the instrument cluster and radio placement were changed. Bright metal trim was added to the dashboard. The bed and rear fenders on the F-1 were changed during the 1950 model year. For '51-'52, the Five Star Extra (deluxe) cab option added upholstered doors with arm rests, two tone seat upholstery (red with white trim) perforated head liner (gray), a second sun visor and additional trim on the side of the hood. I believe that the early '51 trucks had body color grilles on the Five Star cabs and Argent grilles on the Five Star Extra cabs. The grilles were all changed to an ivory color during the '51 model year, and the bright finish on the headlight doors, the V-8 emblem and the hood nose molding was discontinued, and these parts were painted argent. This was because of the restriction on using chrome during to the Korean conflict. Richard

Here is a link to the museum that has the truck used in the TV series. http://www.historicautoattractions.com/Pages/home.html Click on 96 in the TV Land Customs for a picture of the truck.

To my knowledge the bigger back window came out in 1951.
