Thanks guys. The only way I know that there is a paint remnant on the back of the block is that I saw it when putting a clutch in right after I got the truck five years ago. I guess I will have to wait till if and when I remove the engine if that becomes necessary in the future. It runs good now, so repairs may be a long way off.

C&G (800/266-0470) stocks a cream colored engine paint that was used by Ford in '54. The spray is $23, the quart, $42. Engine paint is specially formulated for the purpose. The trick to making it last is to have the surface absolutely as clean or oil and dirt is possible before application..

I am seeking a source for engine paint or a formula to have some mixed locally. I have a 1950 Mercury pickup and the only remnant of the original cream color paint is on the block above the bellhousing. I cannot send the block to the West Coast where one person said he can match the paint. I saw a feature in Hemmings some time ago with a picture of the cream paint on a Mercury pickup flathead engine, but hemmings could not/would not connect me with the owner. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
