The "Ford red" and the red used on the V-8 truck engines are not the same. The red on the flathead truck engines is a darker red. I don't think anyone knows what the color is. At least I was never able to find out what it was. Richard

C&G shows engine paint for 48-53 as "dark red", item 7C-6000-S. 800/266-0470. Many recommend Bill Hirsch for engine paints. His site is www.hirschauto.com. I didn't find any formulas. Engine paint is made to withstand high temperatures, and common paints usually don't last. Successful engine painting depends on the prep work. Getting all grime and oils off is a tough job

working on a 48 f1 restoration. truck has a six. i've been told the engine block is ford red (duplicolor de1605 rattle can), wanted to double check the color and also see if there is a paint code number for block paint. i want to get it as close to original as possible. any help would be appreciated thanks, mike
