Mike, '39 axles are 16 tooth. Both 16 and 18 tooth will work for your '39, providing the matching spider gear is used. Try posting an ad in the classified section, and also on the Fordbarn. Specify condition as having no cracks, commonly found at the keyway. An axle having a crack there has value only as an anchor.

I have the spider gears for the 18 tooth axles. Ford Barn says they dont have any. If I can get some axles then all I need is the typical bearings and seals. Mike

You will probably have better luck locating a whole rear end, as the 18 tooth axles were used 35-38 (48-4235), and were replaced by the 16 tooth axles (81A-4235) 38-41, and (21A-4235) 42-48. The axles are not the same in length, with the later type a bit longer. Most old Ford rear axles look alike, but there are subtle differences. The last ones I've seen in a catalog was Mac's. We don't buy from them, so they may not now have them. In any cases, they are pricey.
