Well, it's a mystery to me. Please take a look at the pic and let me know what the part is called... and if you have any sources for it that would be appreciated. It is located at the rear of the car just behind the rear wheel. Thanks!

Cameron, That's called a piece of non-Ford 14 gauge insulated copper single conductor electric wire, available at most hardware stores. It is wrapped around the shock arm, holding it to the dog bone, which apparently has seen better days. Those genuine Ford parts are available at many Vintage Ford suppliers. Edit: I took another look to be sure ...Now I'm not positive, it may be 12 gauge wire. ???

Alan, Are you sure that the wire is there to hold the dogbone on and not to dissipate the static electricity generated by the shock arm-dogbone friction?

This is obviously not a contemporary fastener. The period-correct supplemental restraint would have been effected using baling wire. Close inspection appears to reveal that the non-fabric insulation is also of later vintage, possibly 1950's. Baling wire is the preferred correct binding material, as it has a higher tensile strength/diameter, and does not "work-harden" when subjected to repeated flexing as copper does.

Tom, if that is true, the installer didn't follow the proper color codes. Ground wire is always green, white is usually neutral, which is probably why it has malfunctioned.
