Ok, my key tumbler is worn, can take minutes to massage key to turn so I have a new tumbler and key assembly, need to know how to remove and replace. I am sure it is not easy, by design, just need to know the proper method. Shoebox

I believe that there is a small pin holding in the lock cylinder. This pin must be drilled out. It should be on the bottom side of the lock.

Hi Tom, Yes, there is a pin visible from underneath, so I guess I need to drill. Dang, I just reinstalled my front seat after installing new wiring harness. Thanks for the response! Shoebox

It is really not a big deal - just did it on my 40 Merc - once you get the pin drilled out you have to get the old cylinder out and mine was a bit stuck in - but some careful chisel work and bit of a wedge into the keyway pulled it out. Once drilled out and removed, I threaded the pin hole and installed an allen head set screw to hold the new one in place instead of a pin. All worked fine. Good luck.

Wouldn't you know it today my ignition lock scr*w*d up on the 47 Merc. I read the instructions on this thread, great advice. Just finished drilling the pin out, now to look for a new tumbler. Thanks for all the good advice fellas.
