I am restoring my 1940 Mercury Fordor and need rear fenders, front and rear fender inner panels and a trunk floor pan. Will '39 Merc fenders fit? My understanding is that '40 Ford fenders and fender panels will not fit. I haven't been able to locate reproduction parts or decent used parts. Anybody know of a source for me? Thanks!

Rear fenders for a 40 Mercury are difficult to find. Most of them rusted by the mounting flange. The 39 rear fenders have a smaller wheel opening as well as a different tail light mount. They have the same problem and fewer cars were made. The 39 and 40 front fender aprons interchange. I do not know of anyone reproducing the parts that you are looking for, so you will either have to fabricate the parts or find a donor car. I suggest that you place a parts wanted ad in the classified section of this web site and the Swap meet area of the http://fordbarn.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9 Also look in Hemmings for recyclers parting out cars.
