Lifting front of '47 motor

When lifting/jacking the front of a '47 motor (for any reason - oil pan removal, motor mount replacement, pulley removal, etc.) does adequate flex exist in the rear transmission mount to allow the front of the motor to be lifted 1"-2" without loosening or removing the rear trans mount bolts? Or do all mounts have to be loose to jack the front of the motor? Do any torque tube and/or transmission/column shifter connection considerations exist when lifting the front of the motor in this manner?

Steve, the rear mounts and torque tube bell do allow movement as required to perform any of those tasks up front. No need to loosen anything at the rear of the engine, but do watch the proximity of the oil breather stand to the dash. Use a short 2x6 on the jack under the front of the pan to distribute weight evenly.

Thanks Alan. Very good tip on the oil breather tube - I had not thought through the process and concerns to this point. I have the pan off now (replacing front and rear seals) and plan to use a couple of 2x4s on the block on each side of the crankshaft with a 2x6 crossing them to jack/lift with. Thanks again for the info.
