I need new stainless wheel trim rings for '39 Merc. Some available repros seem similar to the originals on the car which are just too dinged to restore easily. How specific is the contour: will any with a roughly similar contour be adequately authentic?

If you are building a car to put on the Concourse, I would search for some original rings that can be restored. If the reproduction rings are not exact copies of the original, you will probably get a point deduction. The 1939 Mercury trim rings are the same as the Ford 1934-1939 trim rings P/N 48-18303, so there should be enough around to finish your car. There is a set on E-Bay along with the 39 Ford hub caps, right now item # 110629316602.

I found stainless trim rings at c&g. Perfect contour match to the originals.

Which P/N did you order from C&G? They don't list a trim ring for the 39 in their on line catalog.

Sorry for the delayed reply. The C&G part is 6A-18303-16. The contour matches the original on the car as confirmed by a cured polymer clay template.
