Hey All, A while back i got a set of bumper guards for a 47 Merc. The problem is that they were sawed off of the bumper that they were on and i have no clue how to get the bolt out of the bracket in the insides of the bumper guard. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get this bolt out? there is no head to it and seems to be frozen. Any ideas would be appreciated. Deric

It sounds like you will have to chrome the guards. When they go to a chrome shop they are dipped in acid. acid will eat the rust and the bolts will probably come out with a little persuasion.Check with the chrome shop to see if they can get them out for you. You could also soak them with a rust busting chemical like "Zep 45". You may have to soak them for a while and then try to remove them with some vise grips. You may also have to apply a little heat with a torch.

A quick solution is to weld a nut on the bolt. The heat will usually break the rust bond and you can turn the bolt out with the nut.
