I will contact Dan. Yes, as soon as I sent the post I realized I can't use a hinge mirror.

The only outside mirror that I could find for 1939 cars is the hinge pin mirror (48-18403). I don't know how you would mount one of these on a 1939 Mercury as the top door hinge is concealed. I suggest that you contact Dan Krehbiel, the club's advisor and ask for his opinion.

What type of outside mirror will pass as "original" for 1939? (hinge pin, cowl, peep, etc.) Will both R and L sides be considered original? I realize the 38-39 Ford book says they were accessories for Ford, but were these "factory" accessories? They are needed for safe driving in my opinion, but I'm trying to keep things original
