Dual coils for dual points would be a reasonable assumption, but no, just one coil. The dual points in a Ford Distributor extends the dwell, as one set is staggered from the other. You have the most reliable and efficient distributor of any early automobile.

Replace the coil or send it out for rebuild. They are non serviceable.

It sounds like you may have an original Ford script coil. If this is the case, send it to Skip Haney in Florida to be rebuilt as it will fail and leave you stranded. His turnaround time is very fast. http://www.fordcollector.com/coils.htm

For ph's benefit - noticed in the photo that an alternator has been installed in place of the original generator which begs several additional questions. Is it still positive ground? 6V or 12V? etc., etc. Clearly the coil shows a leak and indeed Skip Haney is the man for the rebuild as recommended above. This said, what information should ph provide to Skip or any other individual that may rebuild the coil concerning the car's modified/current configuration? What should ph verify about the car's current configuration and performance before installing the new coil (e.g., resistors, voltages, condenser, etc.)? Steve
