Stained very dark, nearly black... I use Ebony stain and leave it soak in for some time before wiping "even". The left board is in fact fastened to the sheet metal in three places. Flat head, slotted sheet metal screws. I don't recall the size off the top of my head. Seems to me they are #10's. There is a 1" wide strip of cloth, very similar to duck cloth, attached to the forward and right edges of the left board. It serves as an anti- squeak material. The right side board has this very same material attached to the forward and left edges.

Are the wood tool and jack covers on a 40 standard tudor stain dark like the floor boards? And does the left cover get scr*w*d down? If so what screws are used? There seems to be three screw holes in the metal where the left one goes. Thanks very much Ronnie
