On my 1940 convertible, I am trying to remove the trunk handle lock cylinder. With the key in the horizontal position and pressing on the the top pin should release the cylinder, but it does not release. Any suggestions?

depress the pin and rotate the key about 45 degrees and the retaining pin should retract. Turning the key back will extend the pin and latch the cylinder back in place.

The wide slot in the key has to be pointed UP so that the pin has a place to depress into. The key will be horizontal and if the pin depresses far enough you should be able to pull straight out on the key and it will bring the cylinder with it. IF the pin does not move and is stuck/frozen you may need some kind of penetrant to free it up. The pin must depress to remove the cylinder. If it moves just a little work it up and down with some kind of thin oil.
