While Ford did sell replacement bumpers for '40 Fords with no ribs, they were just that - replacements. AKA: service parts. Authentic / installed upon the factory assembly line? ONLY ribbed backed bumpers. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

I came across a pair of '40 bumper bars tonight to replace the repops I've held on to for over 35 years. One has the two ribs on the back side that are a tell-tale indicator of an original, while the other one doesn't. I doubt the non-ribbed bar is OEM (seller claims it came off an original, unrestored car), and for the price I can write them off and still look for another original bumper bar. But, just to confirm, were there instances of original bars without the two ribs? I still have to fit an original set of wing-tips and guards to check the profile (the tips won't fit on the repops because of the more-rounded profile of the bar faces).
