does the small welting that goes behind the running boards also go between the running board and the fenders? Thanks

No, it does not. Think of the welting as an anti-squeak material. Between the board (metal) and the frame (metal) the anti-squeak material serves a function. Between the board (rubber) and fender (metal) it serves no function. Mike Kubarth

Thanks Mike, what do you do with the welting coming down between body and fender is it just cut off at the point it hits the running board?

Originally the welt was simply cut off at the lower end - near the boards. I tend to "over restore so I fold them over neatly and tuck.
