Fan Belt for 1940 Ford

Mike I ran across a fan belt Black in color with in Silver letters Ford and part number 78-8620-A. Have you ever seen a fan Belt like this. Mike thanks for all your help.

Hey Ken, Yep, I've seen way too many of the belt you describe. It is a reproduction, made for many years. You'll find that not only does it not appear anything like an authentic belt, it is far too narrow to ride in the pulleys properly. I think a few of the repop places still peddle them. Drake started making a decent belt that is much closer in design (appearance)to the authentic belt. Unfortunately (no surprise here...) he missed some details that having been noticed and utilized would have gone far to naking a great reproduction. Hope this helps. Mike Kubarth

Ford had both a wrapped and a layered fan belt. I bet the one you have is wrapped.

The aithentic "wrapped" belts were made by Dayton and supplied to Ford. The autjentic "layered" belts were made by Gates and supplied to Ford. The belt in question (by Ken) is a poor reproduction.

All the black belts with silver painted part numbers I have seen also say "Industria Argentina" on them from back in the day when many repro parts came from there.
