Make sure there isn't an extra gasket in the canister top.

This is interesting; watched on utube a 6 cyl flathead Mopar priming the oil system then checking the filter without the cover and what a flow like 45lbs & we all know Ford has a .060 restrictor. Whats up with that????

And be sure to tighten down the bolt -- and I mean tighten down the bolt. Snug is not enough.

One of the gaskets may be leaking. Sometimes the outer gasket (about 4 5/8" to 4 3/4" O.D.) is a little too small to properly fit in the lid. You might have to go to the NAPA Store to get a gasket that properly fits the lid and covers the top of the cannister. Use a little Permatex #2 on both sides of this gasket and the small gasket (about size of a washer) that fits between the bolt and lid of the canister.

Thanks! I got that same part and installed it. Now I just need to figure out where and why the canister is leaking (it was before the filter change).

I think the Wix # is 51006 . I gave my local auto parts store the OEM # which is 7HA 6731 and they were able to corelate it to the Wix number. There was an earlier Ford # that had a 01A prefix and a different base number that was superseded. I have one of those but it would only be for display at this point.

I appreciate the help! This Ford may be 82 years old, but new territory for me!
