In addition to Tom's advice go to your local auto parts store and buy the tool to pry loose the upholstery clips. They are not very expensive, but they make the job easier and will not damage the cardboard backing.

1) remove the widow trim 2) remove the inside handles for the door opening and window crank by pushing back the escutcheon to reveal the pin holding the handle on and using a small pin punch to press out the pin. 3) remove the screws holding the panel on. 4) use a small pry tool between the edge of the door and the door inner panel to pry out the clips holding the panel to the door. 5) lift up on the panel as you remove it. http://vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_glassinstall-40-46_pg5.htm

I need to make some repairs--How do I get the upholstery off the front door without damaging it?
