As long as I have the transmission being rebuilt, I am replacing the clutch and resufacing the flywheel. One issue, the flywheel does not want to budge. The bolts are out, I can see the dowels and it is a no go with "gentle effort". What's the trick? Also the pilot bearing needs to be replaced and I am guessing there is a method of removal. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Pat’s 40 Ragtop

If this is an early V8, you will have to drop the oil pan,if memory serves me correctly. Then you should be able to tap on the outside and loosen it

Pech, I'd replied to your post on the Barn. Hammer with a block of wood... hit it at the 9 o'clock position, then go to the three o'clock position and do the same. A little back and forth between those two points. It's simply stuck.

HI pech33 if it does not come off, try removing the starter. and hit with a block of wood, front to rear, you can rotate the engine, 180 degrees besure to put a few flywheel bolts it to keep it from dropping off, for safety sake hope this helps 37Ragtopman also use a pilot bearing puller to remove the pilot bearing,

The pilot bearing can easily be removed by filling the space behind it with grease, using a wooden dowel or shaft with the same O.D as the I.D. of the pilot bearing and a hammer. Simply insert the dowel into the pilot bearing and hit it with the hammer. The pilot bearing will pop right out.
