'40 generator front bearing squeals when generator gets hot. See there's a "C" clip on the armature shaft in front of the pulley. Removing that, what does it take to remove the pulley? Carl

You'll need to remove the pulley / armature assembly from the generator proper. Once removed, take that clip off, hold the armature firmly and unscrew the pulley. The front plate can be separated from the armature by tapping on the end while backing up the front plate. Then simply remove the clip and bearing. I prefer to install a double shielded bearing when I rebuild my generators. If memory serves, it's the identical bearing used in the flywheel.

The bearing is a very common one available at Napa, etc. Glad this is going smooth for you.
