Here is what Ford used for capicators: Distributor by-pass 0.45-0.63 mfd oil pressure 0.24-0.30 mfd generator by-pass 0.45-0.63 mfd fuel gauge sender 0.04-0.06 mfd dome light 0.24-0.30 mfd all rated 600.V

Installed today a set of Autolite resister plugs and it cut the static volume more than half. Can live with that.

Make sure that the antenna has the phenolic pieces to keep it from being grounded where it goes through the roof. Make sure that the antenna is plugged into the socket on the radio and that the socket is not grounded. The nut that screws into the radio and holds the radio to the dash has the insulator in it and it is in good condition. Resister plugs may help, but loud engine static usually comes from antenna installation problems. Another likely source is the large capacitor under the cover on the left side of the radio, it is there to pass ignition noise on the voltage wire to ground.

Radio has the roof antenna. Radio is grounded off the dash fitting as well of hooks at the bottom tying it to the dash. Would resistor spark plugs wipe out the static?

Do you have the roof antenna? The radio must have a good ground.

Most likely the static is coming from the spark plug wires. You can get suppressors for the wires.

What is the cure for ignition static in a '40 Philco radio? I've installed .5mfd suppressors on coil, regulator, terminal block under dash, oil sender and fuel sender most suggested by installation manual without success.
