Topic: fixed windshield glass removal

I have a 39 open car and am thinking of replacing the glass...how difficult is it to remove the stainless and rubber seal? Is a new seal available? Are the wiper stanchion gaskets available? Thanks!

The windshield seal and the wiper tower seals are available from Bob Drake and other vendors such as C and G parts. Remove your old seal by cutting off the inside lip of the seal with a box cutter type knife. It's always a good idea to have some help when you remove the glass, so someone can keep it from falling out and down.

Is the stainless relatively easy to remove?

Yes, it just pulls out. Since your seal is old and probably hard you may have to break the rubber away from the stainless.

My stainless appears to be pressure fitted onto the cowl lip. You can see at the top of the photo the driver rubber seal pulled back from the lip. The glass was original and only had flat rubber channel seal. It is very reluctant to move at all and I might opt to mask it for painting rather than risk damage try to pry it off the lip. Does this ring true for a 39?
