  can anybody tell me how to remove headlight switch from a 1950 F1?

  The switch has a pin on it that needs to be pushed down, so that you can remove the pull out rod attached to the knob.
The pin can be located by putting your hand under the dash and feeling around at the top of the switch.
Push the pin down and pull out the knob --- now you will see that you can get at the nut that holds the switch to the dash.

When switch is replaced, you do not need to hold down the pin to re-insert the knob -- just gently push it in.

most of the fords iv'e worked on had the knob release button on the bottom, I never thought to look at or feel for the button on top of the switch. i'll give that a go tomorrow.
