Topic: Optima battery voltage

I have installed an Optima battery in my 48 Mercury 6V. Do you need to adjust the voltage regulator to a higher setting than the normal wet cell Ford battery
needs to keep the Optima charged to the correct voltage level? If so, what voltage setting is correct? Bill Large

I have used a optima battery before and didn't change anything, as long as the charging system is putting out 6.9 to 7 volts it should work like any other battery.

Bill, the Optima battery takes the same voltage to charge it as any other 6 Volt battery. The main difference is that you will not have battery acid ruining the paint job and that it has more cold cranking amps than the standard Ford script battery. I have had one in my Mercury since the last century.
