After the oil level discussion on the 1940 forum I got curios so I took an oil pan off of a 59 block. ,level it out and Put in 4qts of oil it measured 2 3/8 deep and 2 7/8 on the dipstick angle. 4,5 qts. Measured 2 1/2 nod 3 1/2 and 5 qts measured 2 3/4 in the middle of the pan and 6 qts. Was 3 1/8 . It took 7qts to get within 1/4" of the crankshaft.. So if you have a external oil filter I think you can definatly run5 quts. of oil with out the crank causing foaming. '
