Topic: Freeing throttle shaft

Have a Ford-Holley 94 and a Stromberg 97, both with stuck throttle shafts---any solution? What's been done so far: soaked in Kroil, soaked in an ATF/acetone solution, warmed and paraffin melted into shaft bore, heated and shaft tapped with hammer and drift from both ends, and finally heated the 94 till brass shaft melted. Can get throttle plates and shafts from Speedway but would like ideas on freeing them.

Ive removed 90 % of them same way your trying. Never use that much heat to melt shafts. Benzomatic propane will not get them that hot. Plates must be closed to remove screws I guess you know that already. Most will come out. Something that stuck I would suspect a badly pitted and possibly unuseable base section. If you finally get the shafts out clean up the bores and all small holes in bores must be clean and open. Stick an approite size wire and make sure their open. Music wire is best to use. Put a 90 deg. bend in the end about 1/4" long and feed into holes with a good needle nose pliers. Unless these are open the base is trash. This aint an easy job ive done many. ken ct.

Just my opinion, but I would look for carburetors in better condition. You may free the shafts but the rest of the base may be junk when you are finished.
