Topic: Radiator cap pressure 1936 Ford car

What is the correct pressure for the radiator cap on a 1936 Ford passenger car? I find them available in 4-pound and 7-pound varieties.

1936 Ford's did not have pressurized cooling systems from the factory....

So I guess either cap would work? I find them for sale in the 4- or 7-pound versions.

Again, the stock radiator was not manufactured to be pressurized - they tend to become 'bulbous' and burst on pressures over 3 pounds. Skip Haney sells a 3 pound device (pressure relief valve) that attaches to the overflow tube and it requires a cap that seals. In most cases though, a 4 pound cap will work OK....

Your stock 36 had an overflow tube which allows excess pressure to escape. The stock cap was not pressurized, it just acted as a seal. Adding a pressure cap alone will do nothing because the pressure will just escape from the overflow.
Skip's valve seals the overflow tube to 4 psi, then your 4psi cap will do its job.

Thanks to all. That solves my problem.
