Topic: CRC Sta Lube 3131

Searching the Forum it appears historically the Sta Lube 3131 has bee the general consensus wheel bearing grease of choice for rear axle roller bearings. Is this still the case or has some product now exceeded it in performance?

It is still one of the best. It will continue to be since no other manufacturer is using the drum brake and roller bearings. There is no inclination for a manufacturer to produce a better lubricant.

Thanks. To your point NAPA no longer stocks it within a 50 mile radius of here stocks it - had to place an order. Appreciate the reply -

Thanks Tom - I saw it on Amazon but I wanted it today and loath anything but Amazon Prime. The local NAPA ordered it yesterday from another store 100 miles away - picked it up this morning. Man-o-man - is this some thick, viscous, fibrous stuff! This morning I removed the rear bearings and found they were still acceptably packed with the still relatively clean Hi-Temp bearing grease (much thinner, no fibers) I originally used 5,000 or so miles back when receiving the car and bringing it back from its long slumber. Cleaned everything and re-packed and coated the bearings and inner and outer races on a leap of faith here - absolutely the heaviest grease I've ever put on any bearings, although this is the first time on 69 year old rear axle roller bearings.

Appreciate all your confidences and successful experiences here - likely would have never selected this without all your endorsements. Thanks to all -

Steve

For those of you that use this product - do you also pack your front wheel bearings with this grease or only the rear roller bearings? I'd assume so given the '42-'48 SHOP MANUAL indicates the same grease - Ford Wheel Bearing Lubricant M4664 - for both the front and rear wheel bearings. Just curious - am having brake shoes re-lined for the front and while it's apart thought I'd go ahead and clean/re-pack the bearings with the 3131 if appropriate, especially since I'm out of the Hi-Temp disc brake wheel bearing grease used previously and don't care to spend more $'s if I don't have to. Appreciate your input -
