Topic: Help With Heater ID

RJR    -- 06-22-2016 @ 9:37 AM
Can anyone help to identify the heater I have in the attached photos please? It came with a few other parts when I bought the 39 deluxe.
Thanks

RJR, I kept waiting for a picture of the face of the heater. Nothing recognizable without seeing the view from the passenger seat.

I think RJR is missing the face of the heater. Right RJR? Also RJR, what make/year do you think it is?

Appears to be 39 Ford vintage due to the small kick plate at the bottom. The 39 did not have any holes in the kick plate and the 40 did. The kick plate you have is without any additional holes.

I agree it is a 39 Ford heater with the solid toe guard see photo.

RJR I have an extra face and an old core that I would sell if you need one. You can send me a PM.

I agree that it is a 39 heater and the front cover would look like the photos posted of a front cover. It would have a restrictor on the center section to keep the left door from opening fully.

The spacing of the holes for the knobs on the doors is different from the similar looking 40 heater.

The best info I have ever found on 39 & 40 Ford heaters is in the V8 Times Magazines. Vol. 26 No. 4 July/Aug. 1989 has the 39 Ford hot air & hot water heater restoration info and Vol.27 No. 1 Jan./Feb. 1990 has restoration info on 40 Ford hot air & hot water Heaters.

I Just Compared Your Heater To The Heater For My 1940 Ford And Everything Is The Same Except The Kick Plate At The Bottom Of Your Heater Does Not Have Slots in It And Mind Does. Someone Else Mentioned This Difference Also. You Only Show Part Of The Front Of Yours But It Is Just Like Mind. Unless The Front Of A 1939 Heater Is The Same As A 1940 You Have A 1940 Heater

I have attached a photo of pages 28 & 29 of the V8 Times magazine Vol. No. 26 No. 4 covering restoration of the 39 Ford Mercury hot water heaters.
This shows the basic differences between the 39 & 40 heaters.
