The driven gear on the transmission end of my speedometer cable has 21 teeth and my speedometer reads fast. I believe the rear end is a 4.10. How many teeth should the driven gear have?

21 tooth driven gear is correct for the 4.10 rear end used with a stick shift. Tom

What transmission do you have? Standard or overdrive?

The transmission is overdrive. Now I'm stumped. If anything, with the correct gear the speedometer should read slower than the car is going because the 7.10 tires are oversize. I didn't count the teeth on the gear, but it has "21" on it. Thanks to TomO for the information. Saves me some frustrating trial and error.
