Topic: 1934 no spark for ignition..rotor turns

How do we get charge to the distributor? Where is the coil? We connected the +wire from the cutout to the screw on the distributor that drawings show is for the radio condenser if we had one. The engine then cranked and actually sputtered a bit with starter fluid then stopped when the fluid finished we think. No suction was gotten from the fuel pump line attached and in a gas can. No sparks were detected at the plugs.

From the looks of that jury-rigged wiring , I would get a new at least engine wiring harness, for that car. The gasket laying there is for under the coil to dist which should be scr*w*d to the distributor top. Also get your self a wiring diagram. OMO. ken ct. How do you know the rotor turns its buried inside the dist.???

The coil is that black dome behind #3 in your photo. A hot wire from the ignition switch should be attached to the screw on top of the coil. There is a gasket showing in the photo which should go between the coil and the distributor.
The flex line from the fuel pump looks very old. It is probably cracked or loose at the fitting where it enters the pump, pumping air instead of fuel. The pump looks old enough to be suspect, and the fuel line from the pump to the carb appears to be kinked, possibly plugged or cracked.
If you are just trying to get the engine started, try hooking up a small tank directly to the carb, by-passing the fuel pump.
Think safety first any time you are working with fuel and sparks.
If there is an EFV-8 regional group in your area, I would suggest you contact them for some hands on help.

Yes we saw the rotor when we were looking for sparks and removed one of the distributor caps. The gasket was placed between the dome and the distributor. The dome looks like it is one piece with the condenser and we cannot see inside. Took off the only three long screws and the dome came free. What screw is where to put the charge? we saw only a button type screw fitting next to the vacuum line and that is where we put the charge wire(see the pic taken a while back). The picture is before all of this. Hey thanks for the quick reply and the info. You guys are great!

The number 1 wire on the distributor is incorrect. It appears, it should go to the coil on the terminal you pointed out. The wire to the coil comes from the ignition resistor which is under the dash next to the glass fuse. The fuse is only for the lights so it is not needed to get the engine running. The new generator should have two wires exiting the body. The black wire goes to ground under one of the mounting screws for the cut out and the red wire goes to the side of the cut out. Think of the cutout as a one way valve allowing the generator to charge the battery, when the engine is running, but not allowing the battery to discharge to the generator when the engine is not running. As pointed out previously the coil is mounted to the top of the distributor. It is removable by the three mounting screws but it is not supposed to be taken apart so it is riveted together. There is a rebuilder that can install a modern coil inside the bakelite sh*ll to rebuild the coil if necessary.
