Hello Friends, the weather is warm here again in Rhode Island and I'm still putting coats of lacquer on my '46 and rubbing them out...I started this 2 years ago and am getting very close to having all the panels painted. I need to install the windshield and rear window...any online instructions for this? I have new seals, but for the life of me couldn't figure out how to get the glass and seal in place. Does one put the glass in the seals and then move into place? Or the seal in the frame and then put the glass in? Thanks for help.. This message was edited by presidentsamito on 3-21-10 @ 3:52 PM

Putting in a windshield or back glass is a two man job. Without writing a book here; first you install the seal around the glass. Next; I put a GOOD nylon cord in the groove of the seal starting at the outside going toward the inside[middle of car]. Leave enough to grab; two pieces hanging out of the inside. Next; have a friend hold the glass against the car from the inside. pull the cord from outside to manuever the seal over the pinchwell[window opening]. work slow first one end of the string then the other to achieve uniformity. Work towards the outside of the car. It will take 20-30 min. per side[windshield]. Some people prefer a hook type tool instead of the cord. But you can also hook your nice laquer paint and pull a good scatch in it. I like the cord method. Hope this helps and good luck.

Here's another pictorial regarding windshield installation. Be sure to use plenty of lube around the gasket before you set it in place. We use Ivory dish soap.

You are welcome. When replacing any glass, particularly windshields, the replacement glass must be exactly the size and shape of the original. Be sure to measure the thickness with a digital caliper, or similar tool. Any deviance from the original will result in a poor fit, at best, even if you can force it into place in one piece.
