Topic: Replacing door glass

I have a '36 5 window coupe and need to replace the passenger glass. I've removed the garnish molding and trim panel but cannot see how to extract the glass. There doesn't seen to be any way to free the glass channel from the sliding arm at the bottom. Help!

If you have one of Dennis Carpenters Ford parts catalog, there was a very excellent description about how to remove and replace door glass. Not sure what year catalog it was, but the pictures and description should be of help.
One suggestion is that you get yourself a set of 'gripper' gloves. Will protect the skin on the hands from becoming home for several bandages.

You can find information on replacing the glass on VanPeltz website. It is mainly for the the models after 1940, but should be of some help to you.

I don't know about the '36, but on my '38 there is a shoulder bolt that is a stop to prevent the regulator arm from moving to the center so they can be removed from the channel. Look for obstructions to the movement of the arm(s) and remove the bolt from the regulator.

Your door is fairly open on the bottom. Put the widow about 2/3 of the way up. Unscrew the regulator and push it inward so the crank mechanism clears the metal panel and lower the entire assembly. Once it is down into the door bottom you can slide the assembly off the track and remove it from the door. Now the glass is at the bottom and you should be able to remove the window and track from the door opening.

trjford8's instructions are simple. but if you want more detail, I attached a couple .pdf files. I've long since forgotten where I found them and who wrote them up.
see my second post for the second half of the instructions.

Thanks for all the answers and the detailed instructions and photos. I just bought the complete set of service bulletins but probably didn't need to based on all the help I've received from everyone.
