I am not sure this will answer your question but I have digital units on my '35 and '36. They seem to do the job. They are induction units which pick up a reading from a single spark plug wire. Use on either 6 or 12 volt system. They have a self-contained battery that is good for a couple of years. The best part is they are often advertised on sBay for about $10.

Enclosed is a picture of one attached to a radio under my dash ('35).

I have a Westach 6 volt tach and love it. Easy installation.

Yes, bought a Westech myself, very smart looking, not inst'd yet, they are not a stock item, made to order so don't expect to get it overnight, well worth the wait you'll find

Hi...I tried to call the phone number listed above, only to hear a message that it has been disconnected. Does anyone have a newer number for them? BT

Installed a Westach 2" diameter, 5000 RPM, 6 Volt unit with illumination kit. I placed it where the clock was originally located in a '53 Ford. It works great and is visible at night.

Their website is Westach.com.
